Our next stop on our month long interrail journey travelling around and across the continent of Europe, was the exciting city of Vienna. Vienna is known as the cultural, economic and political Capital of Austria and is also known as “The Goddess of the Danube”. We decided to stay in one of Vienna’s most impressive and luxurious hotels – Das Triest, located right in the centre of the city.
The hotel is discretely and elegantly merged into the streets of Vienna with its ground floor bar opening up to the public outside. A short walk away you find the grand doors of the main entrance which take you through to the main lobby area and the reception desk. We were impressed by the attention to detail of the interior and exterior facades and design. It was modern but also had an artistic feel. The staff were friendly and even though we arrived too early for check in, kept our bags safe and helped us to our room as soon as it was ready, offering us drinks in the bar/restaurant whilst we waited.
We then had the pleasure of discovering the room… wow what a sight. A grand and well facilitated room with impressive, sleek, comfortable interior design. The furniture in Das Triest is specially designed which makes it quite unique and radiates class, elegance and comfort. The room definitely had the “wow” factor for us. Dividing doors allowed the separation of the lounge area with large sofabed and extra large wall mounted TV, mini bar, and walk in wardrobe. The doors allowed you to create a separate are from the main bedroom and shower. The shower had the extra amazing “wow factor”.
One of the grandest and largest bathrooms I have ever seen, with ceiling to wall glass doors, and a shower facility which was simply a joy to use and fitted with high class Molton Brown cosmetics.
The room also had a view overlooking the bar and into the main city area and was high enough for a panoramic view with privacy. There was also the elevator nearby which you could take to the roof – where you can overlook the view of the whole city.
The hotel has over 120 rooms and excellent wifi – we weren’t without internet access or good reception for the whole stay there. We also had access to 24 hours room service and assistance whenever needed. Being able to talk to the staff in English – which was widely spoken, really helped us when asking for advice about our tours around Vienna.
Das Triest had several ground floor restaurants for visitors. We mostly used the Colio Restaurant and the Porto Bistro. It was also possible to eat in the Mediterranean style courtyard area, surrounded by olive trees and enclosed in its own space from outside of the hotel.
Each morning we were able to have breakfast on well dressed tables and access to a continental/Mediterranean style buffet bar. Excellently designed and well arranged, breakfast was beautifully presented with a wide array of fruits, meats, pastries, and juices.
Das Triest also has its own specialist store the “Alimentari”. The Alimentari, has an interesting history as it was created out of an old Viennese chemist's shop from the beginning of the century. Inside you can find gourmet food, specialist wines, sweets, pastries, antipasti, olives, marinated vegetables, and staff who are incredibly knowledgeable about the products and the history of the produce.
The location of the hotel also made it ideal for us to visit some of the exciting landmarks of the city. These included; The Schonbrunn Palace, The Kohlmarkt, and St Charles Church amongst many others.
Rod: Das Triest is one of my favourite hotels in Europe. It’s in the perfect location the suite is exceptional.
